Completed research project Activity 1

With funding from the Recovery Fund, SIA “Troja” is implementing an innovative research project aimed at developing hybrid composites using polypropylene (PP) matrix, lignin, and plywood sanding dust. The first activity, "Selection of optimal filler concentration in polypropylene hybrid composites," has been completed. During this activity, a new composite material production technology was developed using industrial production by-products.

As a result of the activity, nine different hybrid composites with lignin and plywood sanding dust fillers were obtained. Significant research on the material properties was conducted, including the evaluation of rheological and mechanical properties, water absorption testing (in progress), calorimetric analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (in progress), and thermal aging.

"This is an important step towards more sustainable industry, where we use by-products generated in our own production process to develop new types of composite materials with practical applications," says Sindija Lose, Chemical Process Technologist at SIA “Troja.”

Based on the test results, an optimal composition has been selected, which will be used in the next phase of the project, further developing and validating the technological process.

The project "Development of hybrid composites based on polypropylene, lignin, and plywood sanding dust and property studies" is supported by the European Union Recovery Fund. The research project is being implemented within the framework of the SIA "VMKC" project No. 5.1.1.2.i.0/2/24/A/CFLA/004.
