Investing in the production of green electricity, the plywood processing company SIA “Troja” has installed 593 solar panels with a total capacity of 222 kW at its production plant in Riga, thus creating one of the largest solar panel parks in Latvia. The site has been commissioned for use by Riga City Construction Board.
The solar panels installed on the production building will produce up to 183 000 kWh of green electricity per year, which is 12% of the production plant’s total electricity consumption. By using the advantages of green energy, the creation of the solar panel park will help save 19.31 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, as well as reduce company costs in the long run.
It is planned that the company funds invested in the development of the project in the amount of EUR 130 000 will pay off within 8 years. The project has been implemented in cooperation with SIA “PV Service” and SIA “EG Inženieri”.
The improvement of processes related to the implementation of sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions has been one of the most important priorities of the plywood processing company SIA “Troja”.
“Over the past few years, when “Troja” has significantly increased its production capacity and space, purchased a number of advanced equipment units and expanded its production range, there has been a growing need to reduce both the increasing electricity costs and the greenhouse gas emissions. We have replaced the lighting with energy efficient LED bulbs in cooperation with CCFI, implemented the project “Complex solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions”, and last year we also introduced the energy management system ISO 50001 and installed several charging units for electric cars. We saw the creation of our solar panel park as the next opportunity, which is planned to be expanded in the future,” says Modris Krauja, Technical Director of the company.
SIA “Troja” – a related company of JSC “Latvijas Finieris” – is one of the leading plywood processing companies in Europe and its main activities are the processing and shape sawing of birch plywood parts, mainly for the transportation and construction industries. The company also produces higher value-added products, incl. rocking horses, office furniture, road signs, acoustic panels, etc.
